Best Things to Do in Curaçao with Kids: Beaches, Snorkeling, Day Trips & More
Looking for a Caribbean destination that’s beautiful, safe, and genuinely family-friendly? Let me introduce you to a little azure gem—Curaçao.
With calm, crystal-clear beaches, colorful walkable towns, and outdoor adventures your kids will actually love, there are so many things to do in Curaçao with kids. Whether you’re planning Curaçao with toddlers or Curaçao with teens, this island truly delivers.
Due to its accessibility and consistent weather, the Caribbean has become one of our favorite regions for family vacations. Lately, we’ve made it a goal to visit a couple of islands each year—partly for fun, and partly to decide which ones we’d actually recommend and return to.
Enter family-friendly Curaçao.
Out of the ABC islands (Aruba, Bonaire, and Curaçao), Curaçao had the shortest travel time for us from the central U.S., which made traveling with kids much easier. Between kid-friendly snorkel spots, unique Curaçao national parks with kids, coral-filled beaches, and a blend of Dutch and Caribbean culture, this island works beautifully for families.
In this Curaçao family travel guide, I’m sharing the very best things to do in Curaçao with kids—from beaches and snorkeling to educational stops and unforgettable adventures. By the end, you will feel confident adding Curaçao to your bucket list!
Why Curaçao is a Great Destination for Families
Curaçao for families is truly spectacular. There is no shortage of what to do in Curaçao with kids, and even after a full week, we still didn’t get to everything on our list.
Since the island is relatively small, it’s easy to choose one home base and explore through Curaçao day trips with kids.
So what exactly can you expect?
- National parks and hiking
- Calm beaches and protected coves
- Snorkeling and scuba diving right from shore!
- Kayaking and paddleboarding
- Beach tennis (Jan Thiel Beach)
- Caves to explore
- Cultural and educational experiences (Dutch influence, marine life, history)
- UNESCO World Heritage Sites
Why Curaçao Works So Well for Families
- Easy to get around with a rental car
- Some of the most well-equipped beaches in the Caribbean (restrooms, loungers, food, shade)
- Breathtaking, calm turquoise water
- Strong tourism infrastructure
- Safe and welcoming (with normal travel precautions)
- Accommodations for every budget and travel style
Best Beaches in Curaçao for Kids
Let’s be honest—the beaches & azure Caribbean waters are the main reason you’re considering this trip. And thankfully, the Curaçao beaches for kids do not disappoint.
If you’re looking for the best beaches in Curaçao for swimming, these are the ones we personally visited and loved.
Quick tip: Bring water shoes for the entire family. Many beaches have coral, rocks, and shells, making entry a bit tricky (& painful🦶) without them.
Also, skip the beach tent—most beaches are smaller and lined with rentable lounge chairs & umbrellas instead.
Playa Lagun — Best Kid-Friendly Snorkel Spot
One of our favorite kid-friendly snorkel spots in Curaçao.
This small cove is surrounded by cliffs and filled with marine life. We saw parrotfish (and could actually hear them crunching coral!).
- Free entry and parking
- Restaurant and restrooms above the cliffs
- Best for snorkeling right from shore
- Coral to sort through and enjoy
Cas Abao Beach — Calm Water + Full Amenities
This is what most people picture when they think of a Caribbean beach.
- Soft sand (especially on the right side)
- Calm, clear water—great for younger kids
- Restaurant, restrooms, and even massages available
- Large beach with plenty of chairs, umbrellas, and shade
Cost: ~$6–7 entry + chair rentals
Playa Porto Mari — Sandy + Fun for Younger Kids
If you’re building a Curaçao itinerary with variety, this is a great stop.
- Wide sandy beach
- Calm water for swimming
- Resident pigs nearby (which kids love!)
Snorkeling wasn’t the best here, but it’s excellent for relaxing and playing.
Tugboat Beach — Best Snorkeling Adventure
This was hands-down one of our kids’ favorite experiences.
A sunken tugboat sits just offshore, making it one of the most unique things to do in Curaçao with kids.
We saw:
- Octopus
- Parrotfish
- Fan coral
- Trumpetfish
Good to know:
- Rocky shoreline (bring towels + water shoes)
- Limited space and chairs
- Nearby fort ruins worth visiting
Cost: Free
Playa Kenepa Grandi (Grote Knip) — Iconic Views
One of the most beautiful beaches on the island.
- Stunning turquoise water
- Great swimming conditions
- Free entry and parking
Perfect for photos and a relaxing beach day.
Daaibooi Beach — Best for Sea Turtles
If spotting turtles is on your list of what to do in Curaçao with kids, don’t skip this one.
We saw multiple sea turtles swimming right near shore—completely unbothered.
- Calm, protected cove
- Great snorkeling along the cliffs
- Chairs + umbrella rentals available
Beaches I Would Skip (for Younger Kids)
These beaches are great for teens or even adults traveling together who want a lively, energetic spot to gather.
- Jan Thiel Beach – Crowded, limited true beach space. Beach chairs are owned by each individual restaurant, so you have to check in with them before finding a spot. The prices are much higher here than other beaches. Around $50-75/day.
- Mambo Beach – Very touristy, better for dining than relaxing. We did have a lovely dinner here on our first night while the kids played in the sand, on the swings and in the calm water.
Outdoor Adventures & Eco Experiences
If your family loves nature, there are plenty of Curaçao national parks with kids and outdoor experiences to explore.
Shete Boka National Park
A must-visit. Located about 50 minutes from Willemstad. Cruise tours seem to visit first thing, so plan to go about an hour- an hour and a half after they open.
- Dramatic waves and blowholes
- Caves and natural bridges
- Mesmerizing views kids will love
Cost: ~$15/adult and $2/child ages 6-12. Free for children 5 and under
Flamingo Sanctuary (Salt Flats)
A fun (and free!) stop for all ages. We stopped several times headed back to Willemstad from beaches on the north side of the island. There is no parking lot, so just pull off on the side of the road and enjoy meandering along the boardwalk.
- Spot wild flamingos
- No facilities—quick roadside stop
- Spot jellyfish
Other Great Curaçao Day Trips with Kids
- Christoffel National Park – Hiking + island views (best for older kids, be sure to go early)
- Blue Room Cave – Boat-access cave adventure
- Klein Curaçao – Full-day excursion with pristine beaches

Curaçao UNESCO World Heritage Site
In 1997 the historic area of Willemstad, the inner city, and the harbor became a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This area became a special part of Dutch history when the Netherlands established a trading settlement here in 1634. The area is well known for its colorful buildings and is a popular tourist stop.

Punda Love Hearts
The Punda Love Hearts or Love Locks are another popular stop where tourists from all over the world can attach a lock to the heart. Unfortunately, the hearts collapsed in 2025 from the weight of the locks, but local officials put up temporary structures in its place.

Where to Stay in Curaçao with Kids
When deciding where to stay in Curaçao with kids, we personally prefer and recommend renting a villa.
It gives us:
- Space to spread out
- Privacy
- A kitchen for meals
- A private pool (huge win with kids)
- A place to do laundry, keeping our travel gear lighter
Things to Consider:
- Proximity to beaches and activities. If we were to go again, I would try to find us a house closer to the west/northwest side of the island rather than staying closer to Willemstad
- Hotel vs. villa vs. all-inclusive
- Amenities that matter to your family
This is the exact house we stayed at during our visit. We had a great experience here. It had great access to grocery stores, a park, Willemstad, Jan Thiel, and Mambo Beach.
Practical & Safety Tips for Families in Curaçao
Here are a few practical & safety tips for families in Curaçao based on our experience:
- Rental car: The easiest way to explore the island
- Car seats: Bring your own if needed. We love our RideSafer car seat safety vests. We don’t leave for a trip without them.
- Strollers: Not beach-friendly—opt for carriers like a ring sling or a soft structured carrier instead
- Sun protection: Hats, rash guards, SPF are essential
- Leave expensive jewelry at home: no one wants to lose their valuables while on a beach vacation. Pack and wear a travel worthy wedding ring or watch and leave your sentimental pieces at home. Use code Roost10 to save 10% on a waterproof Shark watch.
- Hydration: Bring a cooler (we love our Yeti backpack cooler) and water.
- Quick Tip: Buy a few smaller disposable bottles of water and also gallon jugs of water. Every evening refill and place your smaller bottles in the freezer if you have one and use those as ice packs the next morning when you pack your cooler.
- Groceries: Plan ahead if staying in a villa. If your kids have a specific snack they like to have, be sure to pack it in your luggage and bring to Curaçao with you. Curaçao had the most well appointed grocery stores of any Caribbean island we have been to so far.
- Quick Tip: Pack a few reusable grocery bags or you can purchase them at the grocery store in Curaçao.
- Passports: If you’re traveling internationally with kids, don’t forget that each child needs their own passport. If you haven’t gone through the process yet, here’s exactly how to get a child passport (it’s easier than you think, but does take time).
Water Safety
Understanding Curaçao beaches is key for safe swimming and fabulous beach days.
- Southern & Western beaches = calm, protected, ideal for families
- Northern coast = rough water (not suitable for swimming)
- Trade winds can make beaches breezy but comfortable
Always check conditions, watch for flags, and don’t forget to pack your life vests and kids snorkel gear!
